I’d like you to join me on this painting adventure on the beautiful Yorkshire coast. Everything is taken care of so that we can develop your plein air painting skills in this inspiring environment.
10th to 14th August 2026
We will be accommodated at COBER HILL, Scarborough, a beautiful Victorian Hotel set in 11 acres of stunning grounds

The course cost includes all tutoring, en-suite accommodation (no single room supplement) and all meals. A fully equipped studio is available for indoor painting and demonstrations.

The course starts at 4pm on Monday 10th August with an entertaining and informative demonstration. (Norman will be demonstrating in traditional oils but you may use acrylics/water based oils if you wish.) There will be time for questions on plein air painting equipment and technique.

On Tuesday you will have time to explore the varied grounds of Cober Hill. A 30-minute on-site demonstration will show you how to make a great start. Norman will then be on hand to advise you on selecting a subject, drawing, composition and colour mixing.
After Dinner, enjoy Norman’s slide talk on Plein Air vs Studio Painting.

On Wednesday we tackle the splendours of nearby Scarborough, offering great architecture and beach scenes.

Thursday is a great opportunity to explore another aspect of Cober Hill. Some students love the rolling grounds and views out to sea, others prefer the challenge of a seated model. Or you can finish work in the spacious studio.
We conclude with an informative review of our work to celebrate good progress.

The cost for the course including tuition, accommodation and all meals is £765.
